TIPS FOR TRAVELING BY RENT A CAR THROUGH PATAGONIA AND THE AUSTRAL ROAD
- Avoid planning departures on the route very early, if you do so after 09:00 am, this will reduce the possibility of frost and complications that affect driving.
- If possible, avoid night trips to the road, this will prevent accidents due to fatigue, sudden crossings of wild animals and the always possible dangerous frost.
- To avoid accidents, consider driving at a speed limit of 20 to 50 km/h on unpaved roads.
- Respect the traffic rules, failure to do so may render the insurance contracted for damages and the consequences that this brings useless, consider that tires and glass are not covered by the insurance.
- If you're traveling to Torres del Paine, plan on a 3-day tour so you can rest properly. A trip from Punta Arenas to the park is a 900-km journey, equivalent to about 560 miles round trip.
- Regardless of the vehicle you choose, space will always be an issue to consider. Avoid large suitcases; small or carry-on suitcases are always most comfortable, and preferably handbags or backpacks. Between the months of September and April each year, this is the peak season for car rental services. We appreciate you informing us of your decision as soon as possible so we can reserve your vehicle in Punta Arenas, Puerto Natales, or any other location you require.
Our service includes insurance with a deductible or excess. You can occasionally purchase additional coverage from your credit card issuer before traveling for rentals outside your home country that include use on gravel, sand, or dirt roads.
30 UF + IVA in case of partial damage covered by insurance.
Approximately US$1.300 + IVA.
60 UF + VAT in case of overturning, landslide or total loss of the vehicle.
Approximately US$2.600 + IVA.
For vehicles with a capacity of more than 7 passengers, the corresponding deductible increases by 10 UF + VAT.
* Values expressed in dollars are referential. The deductible is established in UF and will be calculated according to the current value of the UF at the corresponding time.
Take out travel insurance in case of emergencies of any kind.
We can also receive the vehicle at any location other than the city of Punta Arenas (headquarters), that is, any city in Chile or Argentina, but like the previous point, it will be subject to charges arising from the costs involved in transporting the vehicle to its headquarter (city of Punta Arenas).
